About me

From the Commode 64 to 2024. I am a software engineering enthusiast, and I love to tackle large problems that can only be solved by teams working together.

I manage software engineering teams

I build engineers and engineering teams. More than anything, I love building a positive culture that rewards bravery, curiosity, and teamwork. Ubuntu, as they say.

I solve complicated problems for businesses. I have worked in engineering for the last fifteen years, across a diverse set of industries and problems, and in several countries. As a result, I am comfortable entering new problem domains, meeting new people, and tackling new challenges.

I have a lot of experience with realtime systems, with 24 hour uptime requirements, latency and throughput challenges, and the engineering solutions necessary to make them successful.

Engineering Management

I facilitate the whole lifecycle of building teams that want to work together. From recruitment (planning, budgeting, job descriptions, interviews, etc). To people management (supporting individuals and teams in their goals, building a positive culture, etc).

Problem Solving

I am a certified Chemical Engineer, a self-taught software developer (on the shoulders of giants), a former hedge fund risk manager, and CTO of a big-data startup. I have been exposed to a massive range of technical problems (low latency, high throughput, big data, modelling etc). I have a diverse skillset for solving problem.

Business Direction

I use these skills together to help companies plan out their technical direction. I contribute to project management, budgeting, and building roadmaps. A positive engineering culture helps to make engineers agile, such that the company roadmap can respond to market realities with urgency, and low churn.
